The image below are the proofs for the sign out front. They should arrive in about a week.
It is almost that time of year again, road construction season. Besides the ongoing projects in Anoka and Elk River, below are other projects that may affect your travel time to the campground.
Replace the Hwy 25 bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway line in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, includes multi-use trail. Project requires detour.
Resurface 23 miles of road from just north of Hwy 27 in Isle to 305th Ln. north of Glen, Aitkin and Mille Lacs counties. Expect alternate one-way traffic with use of flaggers and a pilot car.
Reconstruct 11 miles of road surface, widen shoulders and upgrade drainage infrastructure. Project requires detour.
Install three reduced conflict intersections between Gull Lake Dam Rd. and Green Gables Rd., Crow Wing County. Includes frontage roads and access to Birchdale Rd. (Brainerd International Raceway).
Convert three miles of Hwy 169 to a new freeway system through Elk River from Hwy 101/Hwy 10 to 197th Ave, Sherburne County. Corridors of Commerce project. Expect delays, one lane traffic in each direction, 24/7, April to November, each year.
Replace Hwy 10 bridge over the Rum River, construct new interchange at Thurston Avenue, build underpass at Fairoak Avenue and extend West Main Street; Remove all Hwy 10 access in project area.
Construct new interchanges on Hwy 10 at Ramsey Blvd. and Sunfish Lake Blvd. including bridges over the BNSF Railroad tracks. Build a frontage road between Ramsey Blvd. and Sunfish Lake Blvd.
The DNR issued a permit to HLC this week for weed treatment and removal. The gray shaded areas at the swimming beach and around the north slip dock shown in the picture below are the only areas approved for weed treatment or removal. We asked for areas around the south dock slip as well as areas along the shoreline of the north slip dock and the request was denied. If you have any questions please reach out to the board.

A question was posed on the 2022 election ballot that surveyed you, the HLCCA membership, regarding a dues increase with a corresponding amount of an increase to be directed to our capital fund. The overwhelming majority (82%) voted for at least a $25 per quarter dues increase and as a result, the board has passed the increase and adopted an amended budget for 2023. This is posted in the members area of the website.
Starting with first quarter 2023 billing, which will be billed in February and is due on March 15, the amount due will reflect the $25 increase. Scott Bjork is working on an updated capital project plan and the board will present this to the membership when completed.
Finally, the treasurer account has been migrated to the HLCCA domain, with this change there is a new email address so please update your address book and contacts. The new email address for the treasurer is:
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact the board.
Stay warm,

HLCCA President
My apologies for not getting this out sooner, I had surgery on my left hand the day after the organizational meeting, and needless to say, typing has been an issue. With that said, the board structure for 2023 is as follows:
For those of you that look at the minutes, I will try to get them posted to the website tonight.
There was a big storm that hit the Aitkin area last night and today, about 1/3 of the county was without power. The only issue at HLC was a large branch came down off a maple tree out by the entrance. Power to HLC was restored after about eight hours of being down.
As always, feel free to reach out to the board with any questions or concerns, and have a great holiday season.

President, HLCCA Board of Directors
The 2022 election concluded last Monday evenng and I wanted to send out a quick note to thank everyone that voted. This year we had the second highest turnout since the campground started using the electronic voting system at 84%.
Congratulations to Troy Shafer and Sean Brown on their election to the board.
I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving and (for those of us in Minnesota), try to stay warm.

Dear Hickory Lake members,
I am asking you as a fellow member to please take the two minutes to vote today. Today is a great day to both, get out and vote for your state and local government, and to vote for our hickory lake board members and the one question on the ballot. Our community cannot run without a board to oversee things. We need 2/3 of our members to vote in order for it to meet a quorum to make it a legal vote. If we don’t meet this, we have to hold another election. Remember, every vote counts!!! Please use social media to reach your friends to remind them to vote. We especially need to get our new owners to vote. It honestly takes less than a minute after you have read the candidate’s information. If you have any questions about voting please email the board and we can help you through the process.
Sincerely,
Tara Bubar
The candidacy forms for each of the candidates that are running for the two open positions on the board were emailed this morning. This candidate information is also attached to the electronic ballot. As discussed at the annual meeting, there will also be a question on the ballot regarding the raising of annual dues to dedicate funds directly to the capital account.
As a reminder, the election opens on November 7th at 6:00 AM and will close on November 21st at 6:00 PM. The link to your electronic ballot will be mailed to the email address that was used in the 2021 election (unless you have requested a change). For the new members in 2022, the email will be sent to the address that was verified with you over the last few weeks. Each site gets one vote. Please make sure you take the time to vote.
Thank you,
HLCCA Board/JA
