Members,
Please try to clean up your site before you leave to make it easier for our staff to mow. This would include anything that can be moved off of your lawn, including lawn ornaments. This will make it much easier for our staff to get the lawn maintenance done in a timely manner.
Also, please remember the speed limit in the campground is 5 MPH.
Thank you,
HLCCA Board/TB
Hi All,
Spring is hopefully going to fully bloom soon, in the meantime, please consider helping out at HLCCA to get things up and running. I have contacted Aitkin High School to see about getting some help, but haven’t heard from any groups yet. So please follow the link to the google spreadsheet and sign up for whatever you are willing to help with. As we all know, many hands make light work. The dates, times, and descriptions of the needs are listed on the spreadsheet and below. Just click a box to fill in your name for what you can help with. If you are unsure of what or how to do this, please let me know and I can sign you up.

Volunteer needs for:
Docks in the water (4/30 9:00-noon)We need approximately 4-6 people to assist in putting in the docks. We will have the Bobcat to place the main docks into the lake but will need 2-3 people in waders and 1-2 people on the dock to place the wings onto the main dock.
Water to sites turned on (4/30/22 1:00-3:00)We need approximately 4 people to assist in turning on the water to the sites. We will need volunteers to go down the row of each section as it is turned on to open the water valves and then shut them. The volunteers should verify that each site has a backflow valve installed. If not, the owner of the site will be notified to have this installed as soon as possible. Once all the water is flowing to the entire campground, the volunteers should walk the campground looking for leaks (ground saturation). The volunteers may need to assist in digging up the ground where any leaks occur and patching the leak. We have plumbing supplies in the workshop to patch the leaks.
Buildings Spring Clean-Up (5/15 9:00-noon)We need approximately 4-6 people to assist in cleaning and sanitizing the Game Room, Gathering Room, Shower House, and Laundry Room. There should be cleaning supplies on hand from last year. If not, the work campers should order the supplies as needed using the procurement card.
Grounds Spring Clean-Up (5/15 9:00-noon)We need approximately 10 or more people to assist in cleaning the grounds. This involves mainly removing leaves and debris after the winter. We have lawn equipment that can be used to pick up leaves but the first cleaning involves manual raking to loosen the leaves from the ground.
HLCCA Volunteer Coordinators
Lisa Boldenow & Bobbie Shafer
Good Morning HLCCA Members,
Old man winter has been hanging out for a while too long this year. Snow, freezing temps, and on Easter Sunday people were still ice fishing on the lake. Latest pictures of the lake yesterday afternoon still show a significant amount of ice on the lake. With the rain/thunderstorms and warmer temps forecasted for the upcoming days, it is looking hopeful for ice out by mid-next week.
For those wondering, water to the shower house will be on this weekend and should be able to stay on for the rest of the season. Some repairs to leaks were made to the water system this past week and the lack of an on-site caretaker prompted leaving it off until this weekend.
Speaking of the lack of an onsite caretaker. For those that may not know yet, Kevin and Marie will not be back this spring. They have decided to follow the direction the Lord has led them and stay in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They will be missed dearly. For the past month and one half Jim Apple has been posting ads and he and I have been reviewing resumes that have come in. To say the least in this time of an employee’s market the search has not been going well. If anyone has any leads please pass them on.
Please look for the email sent out yesterday afternoon by the volunteer coordinators, Lisa and Bobbie. Take a few minutes to check it out and possibly sign up in an area you are able to help out with. Thank you to Lisa and Bobbie for their efforts with this.
See y’all soon,
Ed
The snow is melting slowly. The ground is wet and soft. The ice on the lake is solid enough for ice fishing still.
A sure sign of spring approaching; Below is the annual list of constructions projects in and around the area, as well as on the main highways headed towards HLC. Hope to see everyone soon!
Convert three miles of Hwy 169 to a new freeway system through Elk River from Hwy 101/Hwy 10 to 197th Ave, Sherburne County. Corridors of Commerce project. Expect delays, one-lane traffic in each direction, 24/7, April to November, each year.
Replace Hwy 10 bridge over the Rum River, construct a new interchange at Thurston Avenue, build an underpass at Fairoak Avenue and extend West Main Street; Remove all Hwy 10 access in the project area.
Reconstruct the Hwy 65 (Hwy 23) bridge over the Snake River south of Division Street in Mora, Kanabec County, including new multi-use trail. Expect reduced speeds and narrow lanes with no shoulders through work zone.
Install three reduced conflict intersections between Gull Lake Dam Rd. and Green Gables Rd., Crow Wing County. Includes frontage roads and access to Birchdale Rd. (Brainerd International Raceway).
Reconstruct and/or resurface Hwy 6 (Main St./Hwy 200) from the east and west intersections of Hwy 6 and Hwy 200, through Remer, Cass County.
Resurface and improve 12.5 miles of road from Foley to Milaca, including underground pipes/culverts, intersection turn lanes/access. Reconstruct one mile of road in Foley, including storm sewer, pedestrian sidewalk/multi-use trail, and a new roundabout. The project requires a detour.
Improved five miles of Hwy 210 through Baxter between Baxter Dr. and Timberwood Dr., Crow Wing County.
As a reminder, the water is going off to the campsites on Saturday, October 2 in the afternoon. The shower house will remain open until Sunday October 24.
I have the compressor reserved for Saturday pick up around 11:30-12. Any one who would like to help with or learn the process can meet at the pump house at 1PM.
Thanks,
Ed
